Um.... yeah.

I don't have a witty comment for this. Insert your own if you please.

Knitter See, Knitter Do

A few days ago as I was perusing my blog feeds, I came across a little post from Lime & Violet. They declared this dress the must have prom dress for this year. Now I love a sock monkey just as much as the next person, but.... SERIOUSLY?

Knitting nightmare.

I stopped by the LYS yesterday because I was in the middle of a knitting emergency. I am working on a pair of gloves on commission, and despite the fact that I actually SWATCHED for it, I seem to be in deep gauge doodoo (read: it looks a bit more like a leg warmer than a glove). While I was there on my lunch hour, one of the other employees was wearing a gorgeous sweater. Since I'm moving to frigid environs, I'm seriously on the lookout for good warm sweaters to knit. I immediately started thinking about what kind of yarn I'm going to use and what colors I want.

Which is why I then went home last night and dreamed that the LYS was completely, 100% totally sold-out of Malabrigo and never getting any more. *sigh* It was a nightmare of epic proportions.

What the KNIT is that?!?

A new addition to our collection on What the KNIT is that? I'm not sure whether I like the Brain Monster or not, but I do have a friend who seriously needs one.

Found here.

What the Knit?

So I found this cute little set of mittens while I was surfing today. My first thought was, oh how cute. My second thought was wow, how pink. Next: I don't think I would wear those.

Next: This girl made them for her BOYFRIEND? Seriously???? (Grey's Anatomy reference)

Knitting Content or Knitting Nightmare? You decide.

What the knit is THAT?!?! - Roadkill on my Feet Edition

I guess I can understand wanting a pair of these if you're a 5 year old little girl and you love everything fluffy and pink. They kind of remind me of Barbie shoes, or those frou-frou bedroom heels. I believe that my mother always called them "f&*$ me" shoes. Not high on my fashion list...

What the knit is THAT?!?! Comeback Edition

I fear I have been remiss in my duties so I present today, for your viewing pleasure, the Footsie.

Footsie is a felted patchwork pillow with foot warming compartments.

Despite my love for felting and entrelac, this just isn't something I'll be sporting any time soon.

Thoughts?

What in the KNIT is THAT?

All of you Firefly fans out there will appreciate this one. I must say that as a knitter, I'm slightly horrified.

I have had many a friend ask me how feasible it would be to knit Jayne's lovely orange hat from Firefly. My answer has always been that it's feasible, but why would one want to? What would one do with an ugly orange hat?

Well I have found a veritable treasure trove of geeky knitting. According to Knitmeister S, "With a name like Red Shirt Knitting, you know you've found something wonderful." Other than the Jayne hat, I can't disagree.

Knitting Humor

As y'all know I love knitting stuffed animals and strange objects.

But these are sort of out there... even for me. More "lovelies" can be found here.

Things I don't Understand, aka What the KNIT is THAT?

There are many things that I don't understand, but the most recent one is the mystery that is Freeform Knitting and/or Crocheting. Essentially you work with different materials, patterns and colors and just keep building on an object until you have an "interesting" looking hodgepodge.

Now I'm all about placing weird objects together and looking for a variety of color and texture, but please tell me just when and where this is appropriate?

What the KNIT is THIS?

I heart Knitty.com. They have some great patterns and excellent how-to's, as well as a dedicated community of knitters. In the past I have made several items from Knitty's pattern archives, and there are more I have my eye on.

Sadly, this is not one of them. I only ask, what would one DO with a hat like this? Elf is SO last season!

What in the Knit is THAT?

I've decided that with the demise of You Knit What I need to contribute some snarkiness to the world of knitting by finding products out there that I can't believe people would knit or buy.

Of course, the problem comes when I can't believe the product is out there, but I actually think it's sort of cute. Like these Steve Madden's. On sale for $29.99? I think it's odd that knitting has hit the main stream, and I'm not sure I'd wear bone colored knit shoes outside (where they would unquestionably get pretty dirty - think yarn and cat hair and you get the picture). But they are kinda cute. Right?
