What About Brian
The past few nights I've watched a new summer series, What about Brian. I don't know whether this show is really really good, or whether I'm just sentimental, but the show alternately hits funny warm notes, and sad notes that hurt.
The show centers around Brian, a single thirty-something trying to figure out life. His best friend Adam is engaged to Marjorie, who Brian has figured out he is in love with, but has decided to squash his feelings in deference to Adam. Brian's sister Nic is with Angelo and the two have just lost a baby. Nic is afraid she'll never be able to have another baby, and Angelo is happy if it's just the two of them. Finally there's Dave and Deena - a couple who married young, had three children and who are trying to navigate what to do after the spark is gone. Watching these three couples explore love at different stages, love which is sometimes really complex and messy, just resonates with me.
