Office Space and Erma Bombeck

I often recall the opening scene from Office Space when Ron Livingston is driving to work in Los Angeles. Every time he gets in a lane where traffic seems to be moving, it immediately halts. He repeats this process several times only to watch an octogenarian in a walker shuffle past his stopped car.

I was reminded of this even more so in reading my HBR case today regarding queueing theories when the author disclosed "Erma Bombeck's Law: 'The other line always moves faster!'"
